Our Secondary school gives students a supportive, yet challenging learning environment, helping them acquire lifelong skills. The curriculum is designed to ensure that all students receive a broad, balanced and clearly articulated learning environment, building upon the foundations laid in Middle Years. Students are prepared for the internationally recognised IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes through exciting, application based class room teaching and learning.
With personalised university admissions guidance from career counsellors and an internship programme for collaborative work with interns from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, our graduates secure 100% placements at top universities worldwide.
We nurture students to become intellectually curious, creative, respectful, caring and discerning young adults, conscious of their responsibility to the community and their environment.
Year 9 is the first year of Key Stage 4. The Year 9 curriculum is broad, balanced and largely based on the National Curriculum of England, adapted to suit the needs of our international body of students. The subjects studied in Year 9 are:
The Middle Years programme and the Year 9 curriculum lay a strong foundation for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme in Year 10 and Year 11. IGCSE is an established international programme, which empowers students with fundamental skills and knowledge in a wide range of subjects, instilling intellectual curiosity and promoting intercultural understanding.
Considered the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds, IGCSE provides a basis for lifelong learning and encourages independence of thought through analysis of a wide range of issues.
Students are expected to take nine subjects, though in special cases a student may take less or more. The wide range of subjects on offer gives students a more rounded education in addition to keeping future career choices open. Choices are made bearing in mind a breadth of disciplines, possible career choices, aptitude and enjoyment.
The programme provides excellent preparation for IB Diploma as well as other progression routes.
Key Stage 5, consisting of Year 12 and Year 13, is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme – a rigorous, academically challenging and balanced programme of education designed to prepare students aged 16 to 19 for success at university, and life beyond. The programme aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable, inquiring, caring and compassionate, and to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness and the attitudes necessary to respect and evaluate a range of viewpoints.
Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) are deliberate strategies, skills and attitudes that permeate the teaching and learning environment. Students develop skills from five ATL categories:
To ensure a breadth and depth of both knowledge and understanding, students must choose six courses from six distinct groups:
Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages subject, instead of a subject in the Arts. At least three, and no more than four, subjects are taken at higher level, while the remaining are taken at standard level.
In addition, three core elements (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service) are compulsory and central to the philosophy of the programme.
The challenging and enabling environment, along with our pastoral programme, helps students develop the necessary skills to make the right decisions, take responsibility for their actions and become principled, balanced and reflective learners to succeed as global citizens.
